Representation Analysis
Laundry detergent company, Tide, has come through with a commercial for its products that tackles a controversial topic in our age.
Although Tide is already known to aim towards young adults and parents when advertising products, it has now approached the area of gender identity of children. Although this particular commercial features white, Caucasian, representation, lacking on representation of any other race/ethnicity, Tide has certainly taken a step forward within lgbtq+ representation.
The outcome of airing this commercial is most probably to be Tide's target audience still considering the product brand. However, with its representation of children and gender identity, some unrest is bound to come. In the commercial, the mother makes remarks referencing a conservative parent's preference, but ultimately advocates for parent support towards progressive views of their children.
Ultimately, Tide will gain support from progressive audience and lose support from conservative audience.

Axe, body spray company, released a commercial on MTV recently which featured a large group of women surrounding and racing towards one man, who was spraying on Axe body spray.
The overlying theme of this commercial is to indicate that if a man were to spray Axe on himself, his scent will be charming to women around him. But, how this product goes on to be advertised misrepresents various themes and peoples.
Right from the start, the women running throughout most of the commercial are only white and skinny, all wearing bikinis and loose bras that would no doubt be unconventional to run in, seeing how the movement of their breasts were emphasized to appeal to a male audience. The only variation in these women was that some had blonde hair and some had brown/black hair, but all hair was straight. It should also be mentioned that in no shot were these two groups of women together. And as for the target audience, sexually active male adults, they were addressed with the presentation of a slim, young, white man gleefully spraying the famed product on his body.
This commercial minimizes the image of the female body to the point where it will most definitely lose support from possibly the majority of women around the world. And as for its target audience, it represented such a small variation that it could also potentially lose support from male users.
